    Updating sub versions (6.0c -> 6.0d)

    I have been running version 6.0c on this laptop without issues until I installed version 6.0d. It went through the process of uninstalling 6.0c. Then when finished it prompted with the authentication dialog box that wants my logon and password. Unfortunatly it refused to activate my licence and stated it has been used too many times. I can not figure this out? Same laptop, working 6.0c but upgrade uses another licence spot? What gives?

    Hello, Brett --

    Upgrading DotImage only requires a new license if you are switching numeric versions, like from DI 5.0 to 6.0.  Upgrading from an alpha version, like from 6.0c to 6.0d, does not require it.

    In the installation process, normally your licenses would be left alone -- the folder where licenses reside is not touched.  Also, the Toolkit Activation Wizard will run automatically -- you could just press cancel without overwriting your licenses.

    (This is just future information, as it seems you are past this point.)

    In the cases of laptops, if the MAC address changes, it will look to us as if you are on a different machine.

    If you are not up and running right now, I would suggest opening a support case through the portal (http://www.atalasoft.com/support/), so that I can help you with the more personalized information.

    Hi Elaine,

    The licences are working correctly as it turns out. The confusion was that after the upgrade c -> d the Toolkit Activation Wizard appeared and refused to authenticate my licence. It would make sense in future versions to get the installer to test for a current version and only launch the wizard if the major version has changed. You also mentioned the issue about MAC addresses with a laptop. Would it not make sense to check all MAC addresses on a system to see if any match the registered MAC address. I am sure that most developers would not remember if they used their LAN connection or a wirless one on a laptop when they upgraded 6 months ago.

    Regards,

    Brett

    Brett,

    We do check all MAC addresses found on the system for a match.  However there was a case in the past where someone had a separate card plugged into the laptop when they registered and the MAC from the card ended in the license file.  Then when they removed the card it could not find the MAC and licensing failed.
